This week, we’ll break into our first discussions regarding our reading this term. You are responsible for reading Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”
Please know that in order to discuss “A Christmas Carol,” one does not even have to bring up Dickens or any of the characters in the book. For instance, if I write a work of fiction that deals with relationships, I might inspire people to have a discussion afterward on the nature of relationships when it comes to sex and romance. They might never speak about my book, but I sure as hell got them to the table.
In a like fashion, in reference to “A Christmas Carol,” we could have a long discussion on Christmas, stinginess, giving, the poor, etc, without ever referring to the text. However, the text would have inspired the discussion.
To kick our discussions off this week, I ask that you post suggested questions that we can entertain in our discussions.
Please post a discussion prompt for us to consider by Tuesday, June 29th, 11:59 p.m. There is no word count involved in this. I’ll select a handful of these to post by Wednesday, June 30th.
Please choose two questions to respond to in Primary Posts (at least two paragraphs, at least 125 words in length) by Thursday, July 1st, 11:59 p.m.
You will then be responsible for writing at least ten Secondary Posts (at least 50 words in length, of no determined paragraph number). These will due by Tuesday, July 6th, 11:59 p.m. Your Secondary Posts do not have to concern the same subject theme as your Primary Post.
Please note the awkward due date for the Secondary Posts. There’s a good reason, as I’m sure you all know. Sunday is July 4th, while Monday is a university holiday recognizing July 4th.
