Crafting a rhetorical stance. A rhetorical stance is how the writer coordinates presentation of self, the emotions and interests of their readers, and their overall message. There is an element of persuasion in this. In some way or another, the reader is needing to be convinced.
The following elements are key:
Ethos: has to do with the writer’s character. How credible does the writer seem? This can be determined much through the actually writing choices.
Pathos: refers to the emotions of the reader and how they are connected to the piece of writing.
Logos: refers to what is being said or written. This focuses on the writers message and how it is being delivered.
