In this final paper, you will compare, contrast, and evaluate two different view

In this final paper, you will compare, contrast, and evaluate two different viewpoints on the same issue.
Preparation and Planning:
1) Choose a “Room for Debate” topic from The New York Times.
2) Choose two of the viewpoints to compare and contrast.
3) Find two additional sources; one should support one of the viewpoints, and one should support the other. Sources should adhere to the criteria of the CRAAP evaluation test. You may use the databases Academic Search (EBSCO), Google Scholar, or Opposing Viewpoints in Context (direct links can be found in the Canvas Page “Library Links”). Direct links to these databases can be found here
Writing the Paper:
Your paper should identify, compare, and contrast the viewpoints of both of the authors.
Please note: this is not an opinion paper. The purpose of this assignment is for you to identify and evaluate the arguments of others, no matter what your own personal thoughts on the issue you have selected may be. This is not an appropriate venue to agree or disagree with the viewpoints about which you are writing; rather, this paper should demonstrate your ability to read rhetorically, recognize and articulate the nuanced ideas of others, and critique the effectiveness of the arguments presented.
The majority (2/3) of the paper should be your explication of the viewpoints you have chosen. You should 1) identify the viewpoints (What is the author arguing? What is her stance?), 2) compare them (How are they similar? Where do the viewpoints intersect with one another?), 3) contrast them (How are they different? Where do they diverge?), and 4) use your two additional sources to help you expand the viewpoints featured. All sources should be cited in APA format (in-text and in the References Cited). The final 1/3 of the paper should consist of your evaluation of the effectiveness of the arguments the authors present.
You will write two publishs of this paper and a final version of this paper. You should turn in the first publish to Canvas for peer review. After you have received feedback from a peer, you should revise your paper. You will receive instructor comments on the second publish of the paper. The final version of this paper is due on the day of the final exam.
A Good Paper Will:
Be between 650 – 800 words (not including References Cited)
Clearly identify and articulate the arguments of the two authors
Utilize two additional sources, both of which align with one of the “Room for Debate” viewpoints
Correctly summarize and paraphrase content from the text using APA in-text citations
Feature organized, logical paragraphs which are connected with appropriate transitions
Demonstrate careful and precise rhetorical reading skills through your analysis
Cite sources in APA format (in-text and in the References Cited list)
Contain minimal errors in grammar, syntax, and spelling
Formatting Requirements:
Typed in Times New Roman, font size 12, double-spaced with standard margins
Uses appropriate heading provided by instructor
File submitted as a Microsoft Word document (no other document type is permitted)
Please review the below view points to compare and contrast then use the 2 sources provided below
Remember you should have at least one point of similarity and one point of difference but you may choose whether the additional 2 points are those of similarity or difference.

Did knowing your peers would learn about your research in class affect how you approached the presentation?

The underlying purpose of the reflection essay is to indicate what you have discovered from this
process. That is, your reflection essay should explain your process of researching and creating a
presentation of your research. You should also discuss your feelings about the process.
You should begin by introducing and reflecting on the content of your presentation. First, you
should examine your decisions about which issue to research (such as moving from a topic to a
broad issue to a narrower issue), describe how you conducted your research, explain why you
selected certain sources to include in your annotated bibliography/presentation (look back at the
evaluation section of your annotated bibliography to help you remember why you chose
particular sources), and explain why you decided on the suggestion that you made in the
conclusion of your presentation. This section is the introduction of the essay.
Next, in a new paragraph you should describe and explain the choices you made regarding the
presentation. You should indicate why you chose a particular type of visual aid to present your
material, how you determined which ideas from your research to present to the class, how you
decided which visuals to help explain your ideas and where you found them or how you created
them, and why you decided to organize your presentation in the way that you did.
Finally, in a new paragraph you should assess the experience as a learning process. While there
are many different things you could write about in this part, be sure that you delve into your
feelings about the entire process. For example, you could explain what you found most difficult
in the process, most rewarding, most surprising, or easiest. You could explain what you would
have done differently if you had the chance or what you would do the same. You could compare
writing an essay to presenting the material in visual form. Did knowing your peers would learn
about your research in class affect how you approached the presentation? This section is the
conclusion of the essay.
I recommended that, instead of waiting for the end of the process to write your reflection, you
write it as you work, jotting down notes as you go which you can refer to later. Use the questions
towards the end of this document to help you.
Use of first person (“I”) is permitted in a reflection essay. As with all academic writing, you should
keep in mind that your instructor expects varied sentence structure, good diction, relatively few
grammatical errors, and correct spelling.

Assignment:
You are choosing any topic or problem we covered in class so far, and you’re going to write a
persuasive thesis on the topic in your first paragraph (the Introduction), and you’ll argue your
thesis in every paragraph for the rest of the paper. The topic I chose is Singlehood Vs. Marriage and the thesis we chose is “The implications of singlehood becoming the defacto norm on the moral fabric of society and how it is negatively affecting the family system.” You’ll have to make significant reference to 2 sources. I have attached the two articles below.
You can use these sources to back up
your thesis position, or you can attack them and show that they are wrong. The topic and the
thesis position that you take should go further than just the novels and stories; that is, it should be
a topic that can be talked about because it exists in society today.
Other Requirements:
1) USE TWO SOURCES: At least ONE source MUST be something we were assigned to read
(or watch) for class (both attached below) The second source can also be from our class, or it can be from outside our
class; the choice is yours. Sources are: novels, articles, poems, films, websites, and any other
media; but do NOT use dictionaries, encyclopedias, Wikipedia, or internet ‘Quote Pages.’ Your
friends and you do NOT count as sources. In order to make a significant reference to your
sources, you must write at least 80 words about EACH source.
Additional Explanation: Remember that the author might not be talking directly about your topic (i.e.,
jealousy) but you might still be able to connect what the author says to your topic (i.e., the author might be
talking about relationships in general).
More detailed instructions are attached.

Part I: You will need to answer the following questions in short answer form (complete sentences, well-developed responses) about your chosen work in support of the importance of this text to world literature. (Use one slide per question for this part.)
All of these texts are narrative fiction. What is the narrative perspective or point of view that makes it an exemplary text? (How are the perspective and point of view different from stories from the past?) Use specific examples of Modern/Post-Modern characteristics in your explanation.
How does this text speak to you? How does it express human consciousness? In other words, how is this text universal in its ideas and messages, and how does it reflect our shared human inheritance?
How does this text exemplify high quality writing or show cultural significance? Use specific examples from the text.
Part II: You will create a multi-modal presentation. In this presentation, you will create a primarily visual presentation of the cultural, historical, and/or ethical implications of this text, and its relationship to other world texts. The images should symbolize important themes, symbols, and/or ideas from the text. Here is an example of what the multimodal slide could look like: Sample
Part III: The last slide of your presentation should contain a paragraph that explains the significance of your multi-modal design as it relates to the work.
