*PLEASE SEE ATTACHED FILE TO BE ABLE TO COMPLETE ASSIGNMENT***

Overview: Journal activities in this course are private between you and the instructor. A course journal is generally made up of many individual assignments.

Prompt: In Milestone Two of the final project, you looked at all of the available rehabilitation programs within your chosen jurisdiction. For this journal assignment, you will look back on that list and identify which programs within that jurisdiction prepare offenders to reenter society. What effective practices do you see used within these programs? What aspects of the programs are effective at preparing offenders to reenter society? What aspects could be improved?

This journal will form the foundation for the development of the Preparation for Reentry section of your final project, which will be included with your final submission. Refer to the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document to review what is expected in your final submission. You will also practice making recommendations, which you need to do in your final project. Your recommendations should be supported with appropriate research.
In your 2–3 paragraph journal assignment, address the following:
 Identify which programs within your selected jurisdiction prepare offenders to reenter society.
 Describe effective practices for reassignment used within the programs you identified.
 Recommend improvements for the reentry programs.

Guidelines for Submission: Submit the assignment as a Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins.

Discussion 12: Today’s module is on civil liberties, specifically, those rights

Discussion 12:
Today’s module is on civil liberties, specifically, those rights which are protected under the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution.

In our discussion today, we will focus on the second amendment which has been interpreted to mean that citizens have the right to own firearms.

Do you believe gun ownership should be unregulated or do you believe in stricter forms of gun control? If you believe in gun control, what forms of control do you support?
Why are guns important to so many Americans? Research how many Americans own guns.
Would having less guns mean that less crime would happen?
Research guns laws in other westernized countries (i.e. UK, other European nations, Australia, Canada, etc..).
Do countries with tougher gun laws or that have banned guns entirely experience less crime than the US?
Do cities/states that have tougher gun laws have more or less crime than places that do not have gun control?
Consider recent massacres (Las Vegas, Parkland, FL, and more). Would these tragedies still have happened if guns were less accessible?

Type a 150-200 word response to this prompt and then respond to 2 other student’s postings in 50-100 words each. Since this is a controversial subject remember to be respectful towards your fellow students who may be on opposite sides of this debate. I will be monitoring your responses so be nice to one another!

1st response to another classmate discussion (Heidi Hernandez)

I do believe that gun ownership should be regulated. About four in 10 Americans live in a home with a gun, according to the Pew Research Center. 67% of gun owners say that self-protection is major reason for having a firearm.

I do believe having less firearms would mean less crimes would happen. It would also help if background checks would be done for gun license applicants.

Gun laws in Canada are divided into 3 classes: nonrestricted weapons, such as ordinary rifles and shotguns; restricted, such as handguns and semiatuomatic rifles or shotguns; and prohibited, such as automatic weapons. It is illegal to own a fully automatic weapon unless it was registered before 1978.

Gun laws in Australia mandated licensing and registration, and instituted a temporary gun buyback program that took some 650,000 assualt weapons out of public circulation. Among other things, the law also required licensees to demonstrate a “genuine need” for a particular type of gun and thake a firearm safety course.

Gun laws in Israel includes an assault-weapon ban, a requiremnt to register ownership with the government and a limit of one gun per owner.

Canada, Australia and Israel have less civilian-owned guns than the United States does. The crimes in all places are still there. Mass shootings have occured in U.S., Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Considering the massacres that have happened, I do believe that if guns were less accessible, massacres would not occur as much as they do now. I also believe gun owners should also be made responsible if their firearms were easily accesible to others. For example, if their firearm was not locked away.

This is a publish of an essay. I’d like for it to be completed based on the instructions given. Attached is the overall instructions as well as the unfinished essay. Disregard the information on the “poster project” and focus on the essay. The essay is on outside information as well as two books. If you can find anything additional in these two books, wonderful, if not that’s alright, given the books aren’t in front of you. These books are American Rage by Steven Webster and Uncivil Agreement by Lilliana Mason. I would like this paper to be about the Jan 6th attack on the US government.
Specifics I am looking for –
A change in thesis, specifically related to the Jan 6th attack on the government and anger.
Add a paragraph to the Literature review section
Add a paragraph to the methods section
Add 1.5-2 full pages to the analysis section
Make a slightly stronger conclusion

In Part I this week, choose a case from your state that involves civil rights or civil liberties that was decided by the United States Supreme Court. If your state does not have a case that was decided by the United States Supreme Court, choose a civil rights case from another state for which the United States Supreme Court issued a decision.

Here is a brief description of civil rights and civil liberties: Civil rights refers to equal social opportunities under the law. It gives you these freedoms such as the right to vote, the right to public education, or a fair trial, among other things, regardless of your wealth or race. Civil liberties mean freedom of religion, equal treatment and due process under the law, and the right to privacy.

You should be able to go online and look up your state and famous cases decided by the Supreme Court. For example, Brown v Board of Education (1951) started in Topeka, Kansas and ended up in the Supreme Court of the United States. Another example would be Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley v Steve Sisolak, Governor of Nevada (2020) that started in Nevada and ended up the United States Supreme Court. A good source of information about cases decided by the United States Supreme Court is www.scotusblog.com. Other sources can be researched online using search terms for “civil rights cases decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.” Be sure to use a case actually decided by the United States Supreme Court, and not a case decided by your state’s supreme court or a different court. A case that is still pending before the United States Supreme Court should not be used. If you are unsure, please contact your Professor BEFORE you pick your case and submit the assignment as this is a significant part of your overall grade.

Research your court case and write an outline of the case that you will be using to prepare a presentation, which will either be a narrated PowerPoint, a Kaltura Video, or some other format as approved by your instructor. If you are unsure, then verify the presentation format with your instructor before starting work on this assignment.

This week’s assignment should include (a) summary of the case; (b) a case outline; and a summary.

A. Summary of the Case
In one or two paragraphs, provide a general overview of the case that serves as a snapshot of what the case is about and how it ended up in your state high court. A summary is using your words to write a brief history of the case. Do not give your opinion or your interpretation but stick to the facts only.

B: Case Outline
Your court case outline should include:

Title: Name of the case
Facts of the case: Provide key facts involving the case.
History of the case: What legal action was taken based on what your state laws say about this case?
Legal questions: What were the legal issues the court had to decide?
Decision or holdings: Did the court decide for the plaintiff or the defendant? Explain the reason behind the decision?
Verdict and opinion (judgement): What were the concurring and dissenting opinions? How many judges decided for the defendant and how many justices decided against the defendant? What was the final verdict from the judge or the jury, if it was a jury trial?
C. Conclusion
What was the resulting impact of the ruling? How did the citizens of your state benefit from it? Was this a good decision?
